feature: emmy fashion: column gowns

the 2008 Emmys, aside from having the lowest ratings ever, did not disappoint in the sartorial stakes. the first emmy feature is on column gowns, which were typically favored by the ladies due to its skimming of the body and its elongating effect.

julia louis-dreyfus in NARCISO RODRIGUEZ.
i was pleasantly surprised to see one of my most admired designer's gowns! as usual, his clothes featured the crisscross details he always uses, except that this gown was in a lovely salmon color and had cute cutouts to match. the bodice was so intricately beaded and the little mermaid silhouette at the bottom is just so flattering.

felicity huffman in REEM ACRA.
ms huffman usually isnt a style contender, but i thought this dress was absolutely flattering on her! again, beading detail and the nice mermaid shape made her look extremely ladylike. and she should be commended for her lovely chic haircut! that's actually the first thing that caught my eye on tv. also love the extra chiffon at the tail, what a nice little detail to have!

hayden panettiere in BADGLEY MISCHKA.
opting for safe black (which wasnt much seen on the red carpet this year! hoooray!), hayden's potentially boring gown is saved by the wonderful bodice that has graphic beading to accentuate the hourglass shape already created by the lovely draping of the silk. although i find the neckline a bit too plunging for someone as PG as her, it is nonetheless very elegant.

WINNER!!! evangeline lilly in ELIE SAAB.
ever since halle berry introduced elie saab to the world, it has become a veritable trove of red carpet-worthy gowns. i thought this was a really pretty girly sparkly gown, and there wasnt too much on the dress that it would become distracting from the wearer of it. the graphic metallic panels dont steal any limelight from evangeline whom i have always found to be one of the prettiest tomboys i;ve ever set eyes on. i love her! thou...her acting leaves much to be desired.

i guess at the Emmys, its more important to act well than dress well...without the former, one doesnt even get to ascend the stage to show off whatever it is that one's wearing. now isnt that right! more fashion to come, but first: more thoughts on the awards:

- JEFF PROBST TOTALLY DESERVED BEST HOST!!!! I LOVE HIM!
- HEIDI KLUM AND HOWIE MANDEL WERE THE WORST ADLIBBERS IVE EVER SEEN.
- JOSH GROBAN IS SUCH A CLOSET COMEDIAN...he sang a million showtunes, all sounding like the original!!
- I WISH SANDRA OH WON BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS AGAIN. JUST FOR AZN PRIDE.
- I WISH MICHAEL EMERSON WON BEST ACTOR BECAUSE BEN LINUS IS FREAKY.
- HISTORY MAKING MAD MEN BETTER COME TO CABLE SOON!
- IM GLAD FOR 30 ROCK AND TINA FEY AND ALEC BALDWIN! you dont have to be goodlooking to win acting awards!!
