she's my priestess, i'm your priest

A Pot of Tea
by Richard Kenney

Loose leaves in a metal ball
Or men in a shark cage steeping,
Ideas stain the limpid mind
Even while it’s sleeping:

Ginseng or the scent of lymph
Or consequences queasing
Into wide awareness, whence,
Like an engine seizing

Society remits a shudder
Showing it has feeling,
And the divers all have shaving cuts
And the future’s in Darjeeling—

Blind, the brain stem bumps the bars
Of the shark cage, meanwhile, feeding,
And the tea ball’s cracked, its leaves cast
To catastrophic reading:

Ideas are too dangerous.
My love adjusts an earring.
I take her in my arms again
And think of Hermann Göring,

And all liquidities in which
A stain attracts an eating,
And of my country’s changing heart,
And hell, where the blood is sleeting

found that to be an outstanding example of poetry. rhyming seems childish to some, less sophisticated somehow, but not to me. and i think there is a painterly, soft-focus quality to his writing which is truly admirable.

but i have made my first foray into writing after 6 years!!! that's a bloody long hiatus! and it felt good to write, althou i must say the product is hardly of use to anyone besides myself. still, i will press on, and this--i present--the first publication of anything i've written. i have realised that keeping everything to myself is of little use for improvement.

COMMENTS/OPINIONS PLEASE PPL!!!!! feedback is more than welcome...yes, even the NAAAAASTY stuff. thankyou!

Clandestine Past Midnight
by Andrea Loh

Pitch black and silent…almost; I scarcely discern your
Moving shadow, hear your
Whispered nothings
Of lust, regret, forgotten things: nondescript.

Your smell, sweat, they cling to
Me like cigarette;
Slow burn. The air is furtive musk, sticky and

Our breathing is cavernous— ragged
Inhalation of the selfsame tainted lifesource; I offered
Myself, and you drank, (truly, madly),

An agonizing preview of eternity, and still, Time
Takes its time…Your caress grows
Surreptitiously cold, dispassionate; the heat of
That moment
Extinguished; yet

still: Each hair on our
Bodies, (electric, heady), had
Ignited, now

25, 20, 22

i cant believe i'm posting about something so tech-related, but this is TIME's list of the 25 BEST BLOGS 2008. the tide has really shifted to a oft-criticised but incredibly pervasive power of the people-type citizen journalism. of course, in Singapore, instead of freely letting these blogs sprout (they're mostly underground!), SPH created the not-so-creatively named STOMP...(ST for straits times). and yet again, we have a regulated, organised beast wielded by a monolithic GLC to engage in citizen journalism. ohwells, its a start i SUPPOSE?

moving on to other more enjoyable things: 2 birthdays in a weekend :)

the resolution isnt fantastic cos its been uploaded, copied, edited twice and resized...but more important than the pixels on our faces are the SMILES that we have. it was just good old times, the gang (a very fluid amorphous inclusive concept, im happy to say!) just gathering over MANY MANY sticks of satay which my parents happened to sponsor cos they were aroudn...and the best stingray i have had in a while! im sure yeek will agree with me, cos the 2 of us kept wanting to order more, but we only ordered 2 plates in the end :(
all in all, it was good to see everyone and catch up in a very Singaporean way! i enjoyed myself.

unfortunately, there are only 3 photos in my possession, one is above, and the third and final one is only of me. so obviously, it didnt merit any uploading ahem.

maya looks really well in case anyone is wondering! and i complimented her on her pink lippie as well. predictably, the dearth of photos is really because my camera, while in my bag, had been uncharged and therefore totally useless. (reminds me of LEGAL THEORY! aquinas' 4th condition of law necessarily having to be promulgated in order to get any binding force...OK WHUT. enough.)

next was simon's birthday! HE's 22 and not very proud of that, btw.
one thing we realised, however, is that there are 2 jumbo restaurants in Very Close Proximity to each other in the clarke quay vicinity...one at the brewerkz stretch (noisy, smoky, ang moh), and the other further down after the Central next to riccioti (just as orange, no smoke, quieter, smaller). thankfully the reservation was at the latter. thumbsup!
the whole dinner party: jared/cheryl/me.
seated: jin/sam/simon/leon/eunice. for some reason the back row is blurry but OHWELLS. must be cos cheryl is so blur hahahha not funny. and she occasionally reads this so i hope she's blur enough to miss my jibe HAHA. (ohdear).

i have no idea what we were doing...clearly attempting to take a photo, but being very unsuccessful in the process. what i love about candid shots is that they usually capture the moment a whole lot better than anything you can pose for.

leon/simon/me. the intended shot as above.

something must have been really funny...

more candid shots. i really am starting to see their charm and guilelessness! they're always such a nice snapshot...that's how it was meant to be right? the best photos are never the ones you intend to take.

eunice/leon/me. apparently leon looks kinda sketchy in this photo, but personally i think its alright!

got seekrit im not telling YOU hoho.

everyone at haagen daaz, where we retired for the night among much icecream, a surprisingly young and glib assistant manager, much free h2o, and plans for our lives that we aren't serious about.

1. can you be resentful about bitterness?
i was just thinking about this...yesterday, actually. and i realised what a contradiction in terms it was. when one sees a bitter person and feels angry about their bitterness...that's just being guilty of the same offence, isnt it?

2. why are people hesitant about affection?
i was just thinking about this TODAY. and i realised that, at least with my friends and definitely based on other observations and discussions, people are rather apprehensive when it comes to being completely open with each other. be it in expressing themselves through words, but more pointedly so through touch. some people have surfaced that it might be an asian thing.. RREALLY!>!?!?? i dont think so.

i guess all i want at this point, and based on these questions is:
1. contentment
2. affection
sounds a bit too simplistic i agree...but convoluted thoughts dont help anything anywys. SO I'LL JUST LET THE PHOTOS DO THE TALKING. AS USUAL.

quite awhile ago, it was in the church courtyard after the concert...but it was good to see them again! if you guys read this...we all are thinking about you, so please come back? whenever youre ready, i guess. :)

AAAAAAAND the class! well, some of us. being crazy AS USUAL with our poolside potluck photos i promised to upload haha. on the menu was lotsa:
kfc, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, spaghetti, prata, satay, bread pudding, german sweets and definitely booze booze booze.

me/riddle. with shawn looking Very Disturbed in the background. tis always good to be affectionate with friends and people you love; there's no need to be uncomfortable with closeness...unless you prefer to express yourself through the mushiness of words.

the girls! jean/riddle/me/trish/nic/didi/kai
in a class FULL of boys (by arts standards...10 boys to 12 girls), the girls were and still are a welcome source of solace and sanity for each other, especially when the guys went off tangent with gaming jokes, dirty jokes, sick puns, bouts of homo-experimentation (JK!) and basketball-fuelled talk and exercise. although i must admit, i wouldnt exchange the dynamics of a53 for anything. HELL, i wouldnt exchange any member of a53 for anything, AND I MEAN THIS STATEMENT COMPLETELY, like 110% ok guys! haha.

sums us all up:candid smiles, suspicious observer, red-faced andrew ong HAHA JK and really, just a lot of happiness and enjoyment in the moment. like i said, i wouldnt trade it for the world.

coming up: simon's and maya's birthdays!

whims and fancies

**EDIT: i went to chloe to check, and i apologise that the turqiouse saskia i blogged about in the previous post is NOT AVAILABLE IN SINGAPORE. sorry!!! it comes it other colors thou...but nothing that made an impression.

BALENCIAGA has been the fashion house of the moment for, well, more than a moment. the moment nicholas ghesquire burst on the scene, or runway to be exact, he has been utterly inspiring, gorgeous, and endlessly copied.
and what more to be copied than the BAGS.
i posted this picture a while ago, and well, i am VERY PLEASED to announce that the motorcycle bags are NO LONGER balenciaga's mainstay. while they are still being churned out and updated every season, and are very much a part of the brand's appeal and recognition factor, i'm glad Balenciaga has not rested on its laurels (UNLIKE MANY MASSMARKET LUXURY BRANDS URGH) and has continued to innovate in an area where it could easily stagnate!

my pick of the 2 best new shapes, one from each season past.

introduced last season, the giant brief has gone to achieve cult status all of its own. and one can see why. combining the classic embellishments with a fresh twist on the traditional rectangular shape of its motorcycle bags, the new shape looks utterly modern and very professional too! naming it BRIEF doesnt hurt either.
the trapezoidal wonder looks like it'll continue to stick around for awhile, and for all you know might become one of the mainstays of balenciaga!

quirky, edgy, and definitely leaner than its predecessors, the giant slim is everything crazycool about balenciaga rolled into one juicy shiny package. again, leaning towards the brief's wider-at-the-bottom aesthetic, but the SLIM makes no apologies for turning the concept of a "BAG" on its head. that's why i picked the SLIM over the bucket-shaped SEAU (im sure youve seen it somewehre!). All its rounded modern angles make it look polished without the stuffiness, and isnt that side profile just lovely?
since we cant have our models emaciated, let's do it to the bags!

(side note; this lovely color isnt available locally, however.)

(in magenta, im afraid!)
i will not attempt to justify this, because i'm really not here to account for anything (thou i admit my account is low , HAHAH not funny)... but this was an EXCELLENT way to welcome spring/summer 08!!!!
i had to agonisingly choose 1) the shape. which is easily done when you carry them yourself. and 2) the COLOR. that was mad, my mum and i even called my dad down to the Hlton to help! it was either blue with gold hardware (THEY HAD 3 SHADES OF BLUE IN THE FIRST PLACE! WAH LAO) or this magenta with silver hardware.
for some reason, silver hardware seems to be the way to go this season, rather than the gold which has been aorund for longer, and is definitely a richer accent which seems to sit more with fall/winter season. at least, all the spring stuff was more silver-accented. ohwells!
and we settled for this. :)

moving on to belts, the sole reason why i posted this in the first place is because of the lovely shapes and colors yes, but THE BELTS. effortless and throwaway, the tied belt (as opposed to buckled) was the most genius thing i have EVER seen from mr azria. (sorry!!!) took all the okay outfits to the next level:
so try updating your old looks with new accessories!

as you can see, i dont have the privilege of a azria creation, but still. brightly colored belts are a GREAT way to update your wardrobe. you can wear it with a matchy-matchy outfit and throw a crazy belt into the mix like deeds did with her YELLOW BELT. you can also have a more understated look to transition between seasons, with the darker, more monochromatic fall/winter colors contrasted with the brightness of blue for spring!
wear it high-waisted or low-riding, blue or yellow, with black or brown, ANYTHING GOES.

realise how varied it can be...both belts are IDENTICAL. yes we checked and we examined...and compared cheapo prices HAHAHHA. i probably got a slightly worse deal AS USUAL, but these inexpensive less-than-ten-buck options are there! (so dont crucify me for wearing my mum's vintage gucci once in a while)

**OBVIOUSLY, a class post is due soon...we had a lovely poolside potluck at denys' mountbatten apartment. akan datang!

bags are a great way to get entry-level starts into the world of fashion, but for the fact that they usually cost an arm and a leg. STILL, i'd recommend admiration from the sidelines till you decide to drop your cash rather than to get "INSPIRED" pieces, which as we all secretly know in our guilty hearts, are just as easily labelled FAKES.

spring fling

hello dearest friends, SPRING has descended upon us! well not so much descended as much as floated down, dandelion-like, and settled on our snow-dusted, jacket-clad backs. TIS THE SEASON!!! yes, i hope this picture puts you in the mood!
so i present top to toe, RAINBOW BRITE SPRING PICKS!!!! yup, COLOR is all the rage these days, and it is terribly easy to incorporate into your current drab wardrobe! (i've been using bright belts to jazz up greys and blacks thus far...and you can easily move on from accessories to full-on outfits by now. isnt it exciting having to adapt twice a year, at least!? haha.)

MICHAEL BY MICHAEL KORS ranger patent tote in YELLOW

just look at the color on this; saturated, shiny, rich, buttery summery yellow. it is understated, but from the picture alone one can appreciate the detailed stitching and what i particularly LOVE is the handle. the length of it is perfect. it is long enough for you to comfortably sling it over your shoulder and short enough for you to hold with your hand as well. and i imagine the leather has been treated, as most patent leather is, to be stiffer than your usual lambskin/goatskin (cue loewe and balenciaga signatures, anyone>!>?!?! tsk) which means it will retain its structure relatively well.

CHLOE saskia square tote in TURQUOISE

OMG. i had great temptation to be resisted in placing this photo second. but as we all know the age-old childhood rhyme: first the worst, second the best... OK OK i dont mean that! i love everything i recommend here!
in 3 reasons:
1) its CHLOE. hellloiooooooooooooo!!??!?!?
2) its functional: look at the 2 strap option: carryall OR sling. perfectly different and equally likely choices. pretty AND practical, thats akin to having beauty and brains in teh same girl...
3) that COLOR. slightly burnished, very rich and lucious, irreverent and playful, and DEFINITELY not your average color. this is a bag for the NEW WOMAN: a Thinking, Pop-culture Referencing, NON-Label-WHoring, Practical, Stylish Woman.

TRACY REESE printed blouse
in the absence of ubiquitous kaftans, this playful top is a perfect spring choice!
PRINT: great now, will be great in summer as well.
COLOR: not quite fuschia nor burgundy, it will brighten up any skin tone, and the white accents are just eye-poppingly fabulous.
DESIGN: understated sexiness. loose sleeves, check. v-back, check. (as opposed to cleavage, EEEEE!) nipped waist, check. what's not to like?? the tie at the nape of the neck is PERFECT really, draws attention when you turn your back on the cute boy youve just been checking out...leaving him wanting to catch a second look at That Fashionable Chick.

PUCCI sundial ottoman top
PUCCI! this is the night of my favorite brands! if you recall, i had those LOVELY pucci shades just last month (with the checked L.A.M.B heels!!>)
anyways, AGAIN the lovely prints and colors of pucci rear their gorgeous scarved heads, and the color on this really is second to none. except maybe cameron diaz's recent nickelodeon orange carpet confection of a dress!
and its called the SUNDIAL TOP for a reason; look at how the print is angled outwards...a radial print, i love the tromp l'oeil it creates, lengthening the shoulders and creating that nice balanced silhouette with the hips taken in.it is SUCH a relaxed, beachy top that will still be trendy come summer!

CHLOE patent leather suede and alligator slingbacks
IDENTICAL to THESE chloe shoes (click!) i posted about, but COMPLETELY updated this season not via materials but through the lovely color combination. the materials are ABSOLUTELY luxe, and the design is flattering, with the colors being understated enough to let the vermillion take centrestage! ...remind you of marc jacobs latest creation much?

TOM FORD ANDREA sunglasses
yes, named after me too! (ok, thats stretching it, but i thought having the same christening would be reason enough for an honorable mention!)
who can do wihtout shades!>?!?! i must admit, i am hardly a tom ford fan, but am currently Gucci-ing my way when it comes to shades, so i shall be a loyalist (for now!) and endorse tom ford shades! FEEL FREE TO SHARE WHICH YOU ARE WEARING!

on a less excited and excitable note, I HAVE MOOTS TOMORROW. and moots hav been impairing my moods, due to the horrid insouciance it brings out in me. it will all be over in 24 hours.

i hope all these lovely sundrenched color swathed palettes have given you inspiration for morocco, the greek isles, park avenue, malibu, or whichever ideal sunny destination you may draw your inspiration from !!
